I love the way the ice formed on the pool cover. The texture is amazing.
I like the way you can see some leaves in the ice, too. It almost looks like the leaf is blowing off a branch.

Satellite Dishes
Should be mounted on the ground...
I climbed the ladder to the roof today to uncover our TV satellite dish - Actually I did it twice (once to our TV dish and once to Gram and Grandpa's TV dish).
The snow is 3 feet deep out there and the ladder was in no way going to slide out from under me. As Mr. said, "If you fall off, it will be a soft landing and you'll be able make snow angels!" He's such a positive thinker!!
We still have no power - our generators continue to chug along. (They were worth every red cent we paid for them.) If we didn't have them, we'd be mighty cold right now. Gram and Grandpa have heat and our wood stove is keeping the house warm. We have hot water, TV, internet, microwave, and coffee. We have no complaints - except that we can't use the oven or the stove and once the sun goes down, it's mighty dark... The grill - which was a bit difficult to dig out - is cooking our beer can chicken for our candle-lit dinner which we will eat on paper plates.
It's all in how you look at it...
Life is good.

Ski Bunnies!
We went skiing again this weekend.
We had an absolute blast. LLB, HP, DP, etc... We all went. We skied our butts off - well, Mr. skied his off on the mogul run.
The weather was fantastic - 46 degrees and sunny. Just breezy enough to cool you off on the lift, but not so cold you had to wear 35 layers.
I took a lesson.
My instructor took my poles away and guess what?!
I ski much better without poles!! He told me I had a dramatic improvement in one run without poles. Hmmm...
Next time we ski, I'm ditching the poles.
Who wants to go skiing? I'm totally hooked!

It's a Love - Hate Relationship
Snow...
Love it and hate it.
Love it in the winter.
Hate it in the spring.
Love it when I'm sledding.
Hate it when I'm driving.
Love it when everyone is safe and sound at home.
Hate it when one of us is out in it...
This is what I woke up to this morning...
Check out my poor little yellow tulips.
They have snow caps...
And they aren't even chocolate!
BTW: I started using Google Reader. Thanks to all of you who told me about it. It sure beats blogroll by a mile!!
But, like all things technological... I love it and I hate it.
I love it because I know instantly who has updated and I can read each post quickly - I just click right down the line. It takes very little effort, it loads fast, and I'm a lazy bum, so it's right up my alley!
I hate it because I have to click in to each individual blog to comment. I just want to comment from Reader. Why can't I do what I want?? I don't want to wait for the whole blog to load. Here I thought I was going to be saving time, but if I want to leave a comment... it saves me no time at all. It's kind of a bummer.
Basically, it comes down to this:
As a reader - I love it. As a person who loves comments - I hate it.
I guess I'll just have to deal...

More Snow!
We got another 10 inches of snow on Sunday.
Our snowblower isn't blowing snow... The auger isn't turning. No, it's not the shear bolt. I think it might be the belt. I haven't checked it. It's been too snowy and cold. Maybe later today - it's supposed to be 50 degrees.
LLB was the first one out there in the snow with Zebbie right behind her. She made a fort - complete with exit tunnel. It was very cool! The snow wasn't sledding snow, it was snowman snow. LLB did make a snowman - he was leaning against a tree enjoying the view. Sorry no picture...
Mr. and #1 shoveled the driveway. All 2/10 of a mile of it. We have a pusher shovel from Canada that works great. They did a terrific job! As a matter of fact, Mr. finished our driveway before the guy across the street finished his with a plow attached to his ATV. So much for horse power...
Yesterday #1 had an 8am ortho appointment and we had no school. Well, my children had no school, but the private school where I teach had school. Oh yippee. I had to go in. LLB felt bad for me and came with me. Isn't that sweet? She's a great kid!
Today the children have a 2 hour delay.
#1 says,"Are you sure we have a 2 hour delay?"
"Yes, I got an email from the school."
"Are you sure it's a real email?"
Deliver me...
We all have 10:30 dentist appointments - don't worry it's just for cleanings.
#1 is NOT happy.
His comment, "Why couldn't we have gone yesterday?"
"Because your appointment is today."
"Why didn't you change it?"
I'm rolling my eyes... I'm biting my tongue...
My ebay stuff is doing well. If you are interested in my Hanna stuff, get your bids in fast - today is the last day on most of it. I've got a lot of people watching...

Ice Chips
I live in "the South". It's supposed to be mild here year round. We have seasons, but we aren't supposed to get this cold for this long. Technically it's supposed to be much more mild than New England, right??
Did I tell you how long my driveway is? It's about 2/10 of a mile long.
Do you know how much ice that is when the ice/snow cover is about 3 inches thick? That's a lotta ice.
Our driveway is curvy and goes down toward a creek that runs under the driveway. We have a bridge - not a real bridge, just dirt and gravel over these 2 large culvert pipe things. I'm not sure how the whole thing stays up, and I really don't much care. It works. I don't give it a second thought, I just drive over it.
Day 1 - After the snow and ice stopped falling from the sky, Mr. Bug went out and made 2 swipes with the snowblower for tire tracks and then the auger on the snowblower stopped turning. He parked it, covered it, and told it he'd see it in the spring. We had bare gravel most of the way down, but then the sun went down and the whole thing froze solid again.
Day 2 - We slid/drove down the driveway and went to a somewhat local home improvement super store to get some ice melt. Mr. Bug spread 50lbs of ice melt and 50lbs of sand. We chipped away at some of the ice. We thought we'd done enough...
Grambug and I went out that night for a meeting that involved champagne, chocolate, strawberries, and a few friends. When we returned, the sun had been down for quite a while and it was really cold. The ice chipping we had done was great for getting out of the driveway, but not in. We slid down towards the bridge. I said a quick prayer that we would go over it - not off of it. As we reached the other side and started up towards the house, Grambug said, "Well, that was creepy." (That was the understatement of the century!!)
Day 3 - Mr. purchased and dumped another 40lbs of salt - the big pellets this time. We waited about a half an hour or so. Then #1 and I went out to chip some ice, baby!!
That kid can sure swing an axe thing. (I don't know the technical term for that particular tool. The axe thing has a pointy part on one side and a flat part on the other. It weighs a good 20lbs.) He would hit the ice with the flat part and a chunk would let go. I'd toss it over the side. He moved right along. We got the end of the driveway clear as well as the bridge. I went behind him with the shovel and got rid of the small chunks and the snow. Mr. Bug joined us after we'd been at it for a little while. We were down to bare gravel at 4:30 yesterday afternoon. It only took us a couple hours...
The temperature is supposed to go up to above freezing today. The rest of it should start to melt.

1 We survived the snow and ice, but we lost our internet connection for quite a while. 2. We finally got it back yesterday afternoon after the sun came out to melt the ice off of our dish. 3. Fortunately, we didn't lose power!! 4. FYI: Our generators were due to be installed yesterday! Needless to say, they are being installed on Monday. 5. Those of you who don't live out in the country, don't realize that without power, we have no water. 6. No water means you can't flush or brush your teeth or... you get the drift. 7. The sledding is great! Definitely dangerous - but great! The children flew down the hills and managed to bail out before they hit the house or the trees... 8. Our driveway is partially clear but it looks like the Zamboni made a couple of trips on it. We are hoping for some sun today to melt it. 9. Just so you know, this is our 3rd day with no school. They sure are enjoying sleeping in! I am too, but still... 10. #1 and I took advantage of this no school situation and painted his room! It looks great. 11. I have get the trim paint today. I thought I had some, but I'm totally out. 12. I also need a curtain rod and some cool posters. He wants some Anime' posters... The duvet I got for $9.99 at Ikea is beautiful. He loves it!! He also loves his $1.49 rugs! I'll take a picture when it's finished. 13. My house is dry. My skin is dry. My eyes are so dry they look like they belong to a 90 year old woman. They itch like crazy and I look totally exhausted. Today I gave up on the eye cream and went for vaseline! I look absolutely rediculous, but it sure feels better... Got Skis?
So my friend R and I decided to take 4 children skiing yesterday. She had never been skiing and neither had her children. #1 had skied with his school when we lived in New England, but LLB had never strapped boards to her feet and pointed them down a mountain before. I ski, but I ski very cautiously. I really don't want to fall down. Mr. tells me that I'm too slow and too careful. I'm sorry, but I'm not going yell "Cowabunga" and just aim for the bottom... It's just not me.
We arrived at the slope in the early afternoon to take advantage of the "Twilight" ski deal they had going. #1 got his skis, grabbed my cell phone, and took off. That was fine with me! The rest of us signed up for a lesson and the bunny hill.
The children took to skiing like ducks to water. They were zooming down that bunny hill so well! FYI: The rope tow and Jbars are no longer... Now we have a Magic Carpet Tow - It's like a people mover at the airport. Stick your skis on and it
pulls you up to the top of the bunny slope.
R did great! She's cautious like me. She did slide past me on the larger bunny hill and she very calmly said, "I am going too fast. I am going too fast." She was so cute!! She looked great and she was skiing beautifully! I was and still am impressed. I'm hoping to get her back out there soon - like when the kids are in school. The ski hill is only an hour away and I'm sure that during the school week, there is not a soul there. We can ski and perfect our turns while the slopes are empty.
#1 came and found us after our lesson. He had a wonderful time and his ski skills came back - just like riding a bike! It seems that he perfected more than his skiing while he was out there... He was popular with the girls from a local private school who were skiing there. Many of them asked for his phone number... Girls these days!!
LLB, HP and the Dancing Princess did not want to leave the slopes. It took some talking, but we finally convinced them that they had skied quite enough for one day.
Removal of the ski equipment was quite an adventure! R's boots were totally stuck on her feet. They did NOT want to come off. Then we got the giggles... It took every ounce of strength I had to get those foolish ski boots off her feet.
I am certainly hoping to get the kids back out on the slopes soon. I'll be a little busy next week, but maybe the week after...

Snow!
We finally have some snow! It started while we were a church and continued throughout the afternoon. Needless to say, we missed the Anniversary Party. 
LLB - our resident snow bunny - was out there sledding with the dog for hours. As a matter of fact she's back out there now! Yes, I know it is 9 am and she's still in her pajamas. But, she has her winter gear on and she's happy.
