Zeb had to go to school today.
He was trained to come when called by LLB.
Zeb is not the best dog when it comes to coming, but he tries.
Zeb is easily distracted... It's kinda like being ADD... We call him "Distracto Dog".
We take him off the leash.
His brain shuts off. It's so immediate and obvious you can see it happen.
His eyes glaze over.
His nose sniffs the air...
Hmm... I smell a squirrel... where is he? pant pant...
"Zebbie, come here."
Huh? Oh.. wait a sec... I see a butterfly... Ohhh, look a bumblebee... Oohh I smell a deer.
"Zeb... Come here."
Coming... Oh... I hear another dog... Oooh I see a rabbit... What's that smell?
You get the picture, right?
Zebbie had to come when called in the classroom...
LLB took his leash off.
His brain shut off.
His nose lifted into the air... "Hmmm.... smells... yummy school smells.. Oh, wait. I smell dog cookie."
She called him. She showed him a cookie.
"Oooohh... there it is. Hey, this shoe smells like the cafeteria. This room has a slippery floor. What's that girl got?"
It took a few tries, but he did fine.
LLB got her A.
I took Distracto Dog home...

He sounds so cute.
Awwww Zebbie. Too cute.
Sparky currently has the opposite problem. He will not leave me alone. Hi, can I help? Can you call me? can you pay me all of your attention? Yeah, thanks.
ps. I've missed you.
You know, I hate to confess this, but I have sniffed some stuff, too, especially when it was in hot. Not heat, mind you....
You're braver than I am...there's no way I'd take the dog to school.
Last year, we had a dog show and there were a ton of dogs there (at school)...I WAS amazed at how many were so well behaved...I seem to attract the ADD kind.
:-) Susan
Lassie he ain't.
