Bed Time

Mr. Bug and I have purchased our 17 year anniversary present. You know we are hopeless romantics who only buy the most impractical gifts, right? Ha! Oh - yeah, that's not us...

This year is similar to the previous 16. Practicality rules. We needed a new mattress set. We shopped - it was almost worse than shopping for a car except that you only keep a car for 10 years - you keep your mattress for 20, right? We finally settled on the firmest Simmons you can buy. It arrived today.

OMG! Mattresses have certainly changed quite a bit since our last set. Our old mattress set was about 12 inches in height - yup both pieces. One certainly didn't have worry about the distance to the floor if one fell out of bed. I'm not saying we had a crappy mattress set. I'm just saying that it was pretty flat.

Those days are over, baby!

This mattress and box spring is high! I need a ladder to get into the bed now! It's so high I was afraid I'd get a nosebleed or suffer altitude sickness once I got up there. Remember those railings that we had for the kids so that they wouldn't fall out? I think I need to dig a set of those out of the attic... That first step on the way to the bathroom in the middle of the night is going to be a doozy!

I was sitting up on the bed enjoying the view when I looked up. I don't know why I did, but the ceiling is a whole lot closer than it used to be. There will be no jumping on the bed - not unless one wants to go to the ER with a concussion.

Yes I remember when we got our last new mattress. It had been about 20 years since we had a new one and I had the hardest time getting into bed that first night. After awhile it will go down..but it is a funny feeling...you feel like you are way high up off of the floor!! Try not to get a nose bleed!! AND YES I wonder WHY would you two be jumping on the bed!! ??? Hmmm!!!

We got a new bed not too long ago and they offered us a shorter boxspring and I declined it thinking that this bed would be the same height as our old bed. Boy was I wrong! I felt like I was in the nose bleed section too. But I soon got used to it.

Yeah the first night is a bit of an adjustment.
Happy Anniversary!

I have to have a stool, literally, to get in my bed! So, do you and Mr. Bug jump on the bed often?????

Funny! We just bought a new mattress a couple of months ago and I couldn't believe how high it was, too. Now I had to put deep pocket sheets on my xmas list as well as a King blanket for a Queen bed. The nerve of those retailers! Every morning I have to retuck everything since the old aka "normal" sheets and blankets don't fit anymore!

[shrieks with laughter]

I remember when we bought our current bed - it took Pandora the Cat months to work out it was almost 8" higher than the old one.....lots of embarrassed kitty noises.....
